For quite some time now, I’ve been wanting to donate some of my time to a worthy organization. About a month ago, I opened an email from Williams Sonoma (one of my favorite stores) and the subject line read: NO KID HUNGRY. I’ve read and heard about this cause on numerous occasions over the years, but when I opened this particular email I just knew that this had to be one of the organizations. There was a special on spatulas that were designed by different celebrities and they were all pretty cool. It just so happened that I have been in need of a new spatula. What made these so special was that 30% of the retail price of these celebrity-designed spatulas were to benefit the No Kid Hungry organization! I picked one out designed by Ayesha Curry and plan to purchase a few more. Williams Sonoma still has more if you’re interested! As I delved deeper into the email I knew this was a cause that I needed to get involved in. There are so many ways to get involved. I even found a local organization where professional chefs devote their time to teaching low-income families how to shop and cook healthy meals for a family on a budget! There are even cooking classes offered for these families in need. My niece’s girls Kiley and Kaci (pictured above) know what a blessed life they have! When I think of them, it also makes me think of the many kids like them who are not so fortunate.
I am starting a campaign to raise just $500 over the upcoming holiday season. One way to give to this very worthy cause is to donate online. By donating just $10 you can help provide a kid with up to 100 meals! Just think about that for a minute. I am actually sitting in my living room writing this email reflecting on all the food that gets wasted here in my very own home! All of you that know me, know that my biggest passion in life is cooking and entertaining friends and family. That being said, I always cook for an army – whether I am hosting 5 or 25. I am seriously going to have to work on this! This is just one of the many ways I can help! I am making the first donation to my own campaign today. I am also in the process of planning an actual Friendsgiving soon! More info on that to follow (for a few of my local peeps).
Here’s to a holiday season filled with family, friends, food and lots of love.
